Sectional Buildings – Aftercare

We supply hundreds of our buildings every year to satisfied customers and take pride in using high quality redwood timber sourced directly from Scandinavia.

All of our buildings are manufactured in our Essex based factory and once assembled on site will continue to react to weather conditions and the internal environment within the building due to the nature of the material. This is normal, wood is a natural breathable product and different shipments include colour differences, a level of knotting and in some cases splits; all of which have been allowed for in the design and manufacturing process.

There may be some swelling generally in Winter, or shrinkage generally in Summer of doors and windows – resist the temptation to plane edges off doors and windows as over time the building should return to its manufactured size.

An annual treatment of wood preservative or paint will protect and rejuvenate your building. Treat doors inside and out especially edges, if bottom edges are not treated they can absorb water and start to swell.

Heavy downpours and dripping can sometimes cause splash-up under the edges of the wall and floor especially if your base extends further than the area of the shed. To help prevent water damage fit a simple gutter and downpipe.

Annual Checks

A little love for your timber building can prevent rot, weather damage and damp from taking hold, early and regular maintenance is essential.

Exterior –

• Check timber floor is level, intact, free from rot and securely in place.
• Ensure there is nothing under your shed preventing ventilation or possibly causing damp.
• Check the roof covering is secure, clear of leaves and debris, is properly fixed and any tears and wear are
• Ensure windows and doors are free from rot and weather damage.
• Check area around the building is clear of any obstructions or foliage.
• Ensure all panels are secure, fix or replace any that are loose or damaged.
• Apply wood treatment or paint as described above to protect from the elements.
• Ensure there are no obvious damp patches on the outside of the building, and if there are find the source and
prevent any future occurrence.
• Ensure locks are strong and secure.
• Check silicone and replace as needed around doors and windows.

Interior –

• Ensure door and window frames open and close smoothly and oil the hinges.
• Check joins and corners for damp and if found ensure better treatment from the outside – wood treatment,
roof, guttering – as well as sealing the gaps and ensuring good ventilation.
• If floor is worn replace or cover with board or other covering to protect.
