Log Cabin Base Guidance

Before purchasing our 68mm log cabin, it is important that you have prepared your base. Below you can find our PDF document on Base Preparation Guidelines for Log Cabins.

BASE GUIDANCE

Reasons To Buy A Carr Log Cabin

Firstly, timber selection is vital. Our log cabins are made from carefully selected high grade Scandinavian redwood. This timber is initially graded at source and then when it reaches our sawmill it is re-assessed and selected for quality. There are many cabins on the market manufactured using cheaper faster-grown timbers that may twist or rot quickly. We regularly meet customers who have had our Carr cabins for 20 to 25 years- the timber is as sound as the day it was installed. We are quite unique in the UK, in that we manufacture our log cabins in both 44mm and 68 mm thicknesses, as well as a number of standard sizes we can tailor make them to your exact specifications. 68mm Log Cabin Building Regulations

In parts of Europe, 68mm thick wall cabins are regularly used for commercial purposes and accommodation. In the UK they do not reach UK building regulations so all of our log cabins are sold as agricultural, portable and storage buildings and should not be used as residential dwellings. If located in exposed locations, customers should consider using ground anchors or bonds to secure their building. Contact one of our team to talk about your requirements and how simple the process is.

PROVIDING A CORRECT BASE FOR A LOG CABIN

Our Log Cabins need a strong base due to their heavy timber construction. The base should be solid and flat; if in doubt, please consult a structural engineer. The base size ideally should be about 6″ larger than the internal ordered size and no more that 12″ larger. N.B. All our log cabins are sold as agricultural or portable buildings and should not be used as dwellings. If located in exposed locations, customers should consider using ground anchors or bonds to secure their building.

Had meeting with designer, builder, and sales, all very helpful and experienced. Building due to be erected in a months time.

  2. Shirley S

After deciding to look for a summer house for our garden, we came across the Carr Garden Buildings website. We were impressed with the look and description of the 68mm Log Cabin. We arranged to visit Carr in Westcliff and was impressed by the extensive display of garden buildings. The salesman at carr showed us the log cabin and a few other buildings and explained the differences between them all. He did not try to pressure us to purchase, but we felt so impressed by the quality and design of the products that we decided to buy one there and then. very happy with the outcome and would recommend
