We manufacture log cabins on our own state-of-the art log production line at our sawmill in Wickford, Essex. We keep large stocks of timbers imported directly from forests in Finland and we machine and manufacture to the exact design and layout you want. Your cabin can be manufactured with doors, windows, dividing rooms in any location and with either a single pitch pent roof or apex roof design. We can include verandahs, roof overhangs, bars, personalised name plates- whatever you want. We manufacture log cabins with 44mm wall thickness and 68mm wall thickness, as a rule we highly recommend that cabins over 20 square metres in size are only manufactured from 68mm thick logs. Our 68mm thick wall option provide outstanding strength and insulation values. By delivering outstanding quality year after year, we have manufactured literally thousands of bespoke log cabins for customers throughout London, Essex, and south east England- all of them manufactured and installed by our skilled workforce. Our doors and windows are of a premium quality using triple laminated timbers to reduce warping and twisting, all of our joinery is made in our own factory to guarantee quality.
In parts of Europe 68mm thick wall cabins are regularly used for commercial purposes and accommodation. In the UK they do not reach UK building regulations so all of our log cabins are sold as agricultural, portable and storage buildings and should not be used as residential dwellings. If located in exposed locations, customers should consider using ground anchors or bonds to secure their building. Contact one of our team to talk about your requirements and how simple the process is. We also keep stocks of popular designs so can often offer fast delivery for self assembly.
We combine 40 years of manufacturing experience with the latest CNC and CAD machinery to produce what we believe to be the best log cabins in the UK. Carr Garden Buildings control every stage of the production process at our Essex-based factory to ensure we only deliver the highest quality.
You get to choose what type of window and where you want them, where you want your doors and partition walls placed. You can even decide which type of roof - single slope (pent) or an apex design and what kind of covering; we fit our EPDM rubber roofing as standard or you can choose to have shingle tiles. Then we do the rest - and supply and install a quality Log Cabin designed and built specifically for you. Prices below are listed as Pent and Apex 44mm and include VAT, for the full price list and the 68mm cabins, please download the PDF price sheet.
Firstly, timber selection is vital. Our log cabins are made from carefully selected high grade Scandinavian redwood. This timber is initially graded at source and then when it reaches our sawmill it is re-assessed and selected for quality. There are many cabins on the market manufactured using cheaper faster-grown timbers that may twist or rot quickly. We regularly meet customers who have had our Carr cabins for 20 to 25 years- the timber is as sound as the day it was installed. We are quite unique in the UK, in that we manufacture our log cabins in 44mm and 68 mm thicknesses, as well as a number of standard sizes we can tailor make them to your exact specifications. Call us now for a discussion on your Log Cabin dreams and let us turn them into reality - 01268 561450.
As well as standard sizes and models, you can specify exactly what you want: door and window types and position; overall dimension and internal size, whether you want a decked and railed veranda, a series of internal partition walls, because our buildings are totally bespoke, you can have unlimited choice. You can also choose double glazing; georgian windows; leaded windows or full length toughened glass windows. It's all your personal choice; you design and we do the rest.
In order to ensure the best quality finish – we process the logs through our moulding machines and then cut the joints with a four way notching system. This gives our cabins a tight join, which we regularly re-check to ensure less than 0.1mm tolerance. As we have the very latest programmable CNC machinery on site, it is easy for us to make bespoke units to fit our customers’ exact requirements. Changing the location of doors, windows, partition walls, verandas etc is simple and we have fully trained CAD technicians who can sketch very realistic buildings with all of your specific designs to include roof coverings, internal walls etc - if you can dream it, we can build it. In fact, it's so realistic our precision milling machine makes the actual buildings straight from the drawing template.
We take great pride in the quality of our windows and doors. Our skilled carpenters combine traditional carpentry methods and techniques with the very latest machinery. We pay great attention to detail - for example all of the timber used in our doors is triple laminated, engineered and glued carefully to minimise any twisting and movement. As we have our own joinery shop on-site we can tailor each set of joinery requests to customers needs – with either contemporary, Georgian or even proper leaded windows. The final stage for our door assembly is the addition of five lever locks for residential standard security. The timber in our doors is triple laminated also to reduce the chance of any movement or warping in wet or dry weather. For the floors of our log cabins we use 18mm marine bound plywood for extra strength and durability, the plywood sits on pre-treated floor runners. The timber we use for the log walls is carefully selected redwood, slow grown and preserved with your choice of colour of treatment.
Our floors are made from 18mm EN-638 plywood supported by tannelised pressure treated joists. This superior plywood finish gives our floors a very strong and solid finish. This finish can be used as it is, or facilitate whatever floor covering our customers want: tiling; carpeting; linoleum etc. Our roofs on the Log Cabins are all finished with EPDM rubber roofing which outlasts traditional felt many times over and is far superior to almost all timber building roof materials, we do also offer shingle tiles for a more traditional appearance.
Before despatch, all components are re-checked for quality and we treat the joinery components individually with wood preservative to ensure all of the important rebates and recesses are fully preserved. At the time of delivery, the whole unit is installed by our own experienced building teams. When the cabin is fully assembled it is then treated with wood preservative – normally on the same day. The cabin is sealed, fully glazed and inspected before being handed over to you, the customer.
We believe that Carr Log Cabins represent outstanding value for money and remember, the prices include free delivery and construction within 60 miles of our Wickford, Essex base. We encourage you to visit us and inspect the quality of our cabins before you decide. Our after sales service is important too. If in the unlikely event that our customers experience any minor problems as the cabin settles, we will normally despatch a carpenter to you within 24 hours to assess and sort out the issue.

Our Log Cabins need a substantial base due to their heavy timber construction. The base should be solid and flat; if in doubt, please consult a structural engineer. The base size ideally should be about 6" larger than the internal ordered size and no more that 12" larger. N.B. All our log cabins are sold as agricultural or portable buildings and should not be used as dwellings. If located in exposed locations, customers should consider using ground anchors or bonds to secure their building.
