Questions

Q: How much does a Carr log cabin cost?

A: Surprisingly little considering the build quality. Because we don't mass produce kits and each log cabin is custom built we have to quote on each project individually. Please call us for a free quote on: 020 8594 9331.
We will feature prices on the web site soon.

Q: What are the advantages of a Carr log cabin over other log cabins?

A: Our cabins are custom built to your requirements and at very competitive prices. Our log cabins are solidly constructed from pine timber and are built to last. Door and window positions are chosen by the customer. Traditional mortice and tenon joints are used for our door and window frames. There are many other advantages; some which will be covered later in this question and answer section.

Q: Do I need planning permission for a log cabin?

A: Not usually, but as you may appreciate each local authority will have it's own rules particularly in conservation areas. So please check with your local council.
Often a local council may ask that a garden building should: not exceed two thirds of the garden size; that there needs to be at least a 6.6ft (2m) gap from other buildings to act as a fire break and that there should be a 3.3ft (1m) division from your neighbours.
The height restrictions are usually 13.2ft (4m) for apex buildings and 9.9ft (3m) for flat roofed buildings.

Q: What kind of foundation do we recommend?

A: The customer needs to supply a solid level concrete, paving slab or screed base to a depth of 6 inches (15cm) and a 3ft (90cm) extent all around the cabin (the depth of the base need only be 4 inches (10cm) at the centre of area).

Q: Do I have to do anything to take delivery of a building?

A: We recommend that access be cleared to the area of construction. For access through archways, passages and doors please call us to check timber sizes.

Q: What kind of timber is used in our log cabins?

A: Our cabins are all cut from pine timber. The walls come in a choice three thicknesses 1.5 inches, 2 inches or 2.5 inches (38mm, 50mm or 64mm).

Q: What roofing materials do we use?

A: Cabin roofs are built using sheet roofing felt, however felt shingles or tiles can be supplied at an extra cost. Please call us for a quote.

Q: Can we include extra windows and doors?

A: Yes.

Q: Are doors and windows supplied with glazing?

A: Yes, all our log cabins are glazed with glass or UPVC double glazing, with or without leaded lights. The price includes treatment, sealing brass furniture and locks.

Q: Is insulation necessary and if so how much does it cost?

A: Insulation is not usually required for our log cabins as wood is a natural insulator. But if you’re working all year round from your garden office it may be worth considering additional wall, floor and roof insulation. A rough guide to the cost of insulation can be worked out by adding an extra 20% to the price of a log cabin. For an accurate quote please call us.

Q: Do we install electrics and plumbing?

A: I'm afraid that we don’t have the facility to do the electrics and plumbing ourselves. For peace of mind and value for money we recommend that you hire someone trusted and local.

Q: How far away can we deliver and assemble?

A: To keep our prices down our building teams have to be able to deliver and assemble in one day. Therefore we have to restrict our delivery territory to the south east of England.

Q: What is the cost of delivery and assembly?

A: Delivery and assembly is free to customers living within a 75 mile radius of London. Please call if you live further away or you’re not sure.

Q: What is the delivery time?

A: Please call us about this as delivery times vary throughout the year.

Q: How long will it take to erect a log cabin?

A: Naturally this depends on the size of the building. Usually we deliver and construct log cabins within a normal working day.

Q: Is wood treatment included?

A: Yes all our log cabins are externally treated.

Q: Is there anything else I need to know about installing a log cabin?

A: While we can't anticipate every question, we'll certainly be happy to provide you with any additional answers and information you might need or want.
